ATACO has been making stamped metal parts for OEMs since 1946, from small brackets to parts as large as 72 by 180 inches on presses up to 1,700 tons. Progressive, transfer, deep draw, and short run stamping all happen in our Cedarburg, Wisconsin plant.

High Precision Metal Stamping
Precision starts with the tooling. We build our dies in house and run them on our own presses, with robotic transfer moving large parts from die to die the same way every cycle.
That control is what lets us hold tight tolerances with part-to-part repeatability, from short runs on hand-fed line dies to high-volume progressive work. As a custom metal fabrication shop, we can also weld and assemble stamped parts into complete fabricated assemblies, with finishing managed through our partners.
Stamping Processes We Run
Not every part wants the same press or the same die. Here is how we decide, and what each approach costs you.
Progressive Die Stamping
The strip feeds through a series of stations and comes out the far end as a finished part. Fastest cost per piece at volume, highest tooling investment up front. Right answer when your annual volume is high and the design is locked.
Transfer and Robotic Die Stamping
The part is moved station to station by robot instead of staying attached to a strip. This is how you make large parts, deep parts, and parts that need operations from more than one direction. Our robotic transfer runs on beds up to 72 by 180 inches, which is a size very few shops in the Midwest can handle.
Deep Draw Stamping
When the part is deeper than it is wide and needs to be seamless, it gets drawn rather than formed. We draw to 16 inches deep and 48 inches in diameter. Full detail on our deep drawn shells page.
Short Run and Hand-Fed Line Die
Prototype quantities, service parts, and low annual volumes do not justify progressive tooling. We run line dies and laser-cut blanks instead, so you get real stamped parts without a five-figure tooling bill. This is also how we prove a design before anybody commits to hard tooling.
Not sure which one fits? Send the print and the annual volume. We will quote it the way that costs you the least, even when that is not the way that bills us the most.
Stamping Capabilities and Tolerances
Capability ranges for stamped metal parts. Final limits depend on material, geometry, and part features, so we confirm every part against your print before we quote it.
| Parameter | Capability |
|---|---|
| Press range | Up to 1,700 tons, mechanical and hydraulic |
| Max part envelope | 72″ x 180″ bed |
| Material thickness | Up to 0.8″ (20 mm) |
| Tolerance | Depends on material, thickness, and geometry. Drawn parts: ±0.010″ standard. |
| Materials | Carbon steel, HSLA, stainless, aluminum, copper, brass |
| Tooling | Designed and built in house |
| Volumes | Prototype, short run, and production |
| Secondary | Laser trim, weld, assembly, finishing |
In-House Tool and Die
We design, build, run, and maintain the tooling in our own tool room, so the people who built a die are the ones who change it.
Our engineering and tech group will work with you as needed to refine your designs and develop a final product. ATACO uses advanced metal stamping simulation software to evaluate deep draw process and part feasibility, saving our customers time and money.
Materials We Stamp
ATACO can produce metal stamping parts and components from a range of materials and alloys, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and others.
Carbon steel and HSLA for structural and general-purpose parts. Stainless, 304 and 316, where corrosion, wash-down, or food contact is a factor. Aluminum where weight matters. Copper and brass for electrical and fluid components.
We stamp material up to 0.8 inches, or 20 mm, thick. Most precision stamping shops stop well short of that. If your part is heavy gauge and you have been told it has to be a weldment, it is worth a second look.
Industries We Stamp For
We supply a broad spectrum of sheet metal stamping parts to customers in many different markets, including:
Agriculture
Deep drawn shells, custom stampings, and welded components for agricultural equipment OEMs.
Construction
Brackets, electrical housings, fuel and coolant tanks, frames, enclosures, and heat shields for construction equipment.
Lawn & garden
Deep drawn mower decks and stamped components for garden tractors, mowers, and snow throwers.
Commercial food service
Deep drawn sinks, shells, and stampings for commercial kitchen, pantry, and serving equipment.
Military
Vehicle armor components and specialized brackets for military OEMs. ATACO is ITAR compliant.
Rail
Transom and ride control components, drawn shells for ventilation and fluids, and brackets for rail car assembly.
Sustainability products
Mounting components and coolant, battery, and charging port housings for renewable energy products.
Material handling
Engine and battery covers, mast and lift components, floor plates, and operator housings.
Powersports
Deep drawn panels, structural brackets, battery trays, and guards for UTVs and side-by-sides.
Industry manufacturers rely on ATACO to meet OEM standards and provide quick turnaround on stamped metal parts to accommodate seasonal demand for products.
Metal Stamping FAQs
Our largest press bed is 72 by 180 inches, running up to 1,700 tons.
Progressive if the part is small enough to stay on a strip and your volume is high. Transfer if the part is large, deep, or needs operations from multiple directions. Send us the print and we will tell you which one your part wants.
Yes. Hand-fed line dies and laser-cut blanks let us make real stamped parts in low quantities without full progressive tooling.
Standard drawn tolerance is plus or minus 0.010 inches. Tell us which features are critical and we will tell you honestly what is achievable.
Up to 0.8 inches, or 20 mm.
